DON'T DO DRUG POST: Mountain Biking

DON'T DO DRUG POST 2: Mountain Biking

Welcome to the 2nd part about mountain biking. Well for the 2nd post, in case you haven't been reading my previous post, please do read to know why I'm writing this post for. For this post, I wanna talk about which parts are which in and out of a mountain bike. But not all though because it's going to be a very long post if I tend to do so. So the first thing you need to check before buying a mountain bike. It's a lesson I've learnt through the hard way. You need to check your height and the size of the frame. It's the most important part of all. The one you've seen before I'm using is 16" size frame which is actually quite big for me. I'm supposed to use size 14" so I've just actually changed the size today with my new frame. Okay, back to the story. Here's some of guides of getting the right frame for you.

Frame Sizing Guide

  1. When you straddle the bicycle frame with your feet flat on the ground, as illustrated here, you should be able to clear the top tube (crossbar).
  2. If you like to sit upright, go for the biggest frame that still allows top tube clearance.
  3. If you prefer more athletic riding, particularly mountain biking over rough terrain, you are safest with maximum clearance, so plump for the smallest possible frame - as long as you can still stretch your legs and the bike isn't so short that it cramps your riding style. Although every manufacturer has their own sizing quirks, a bike's frame size is based on the length of the seat tube (the tube that the seatpost goes into).
  4. You can get a rough idea of the size of frame you require if you measure your inside leg - crotch to floor - then subtract 9" / 23cm or 10" / 25cm for a road bike (or a mountain bike used as a road bike) or 12" / 30cm for an athletically-ridden mountain bike. Hence a rider with a 32" / 81cm inside leg who owns a 23" / 58cm road bike usually requires a 20" / 51cm mountain bike.
  5. The development of compact frames with sloping top tubes and long seatposts has further blurred the sizing issue. I'm unfeasibly tall (6' 8" / 203cm) so frame-builders would once recommend a minimum road bike frame size of 27" (68.5cm). I now comfortably ride a 21" / 53cm Specialized Expedition.

I chose 14" frame because I do not want to be stretched out too much while riding also I want full control of the bike. This frame is also less weight than the previous one obviously.

This is my new 14" frame which is slightly smaller than the previous rockbike frame I've had. From here you know what to do before buying a new mountain bike. Okay? Make sure you check your height and the frame size to make it suitable for you. Until we meet again in the next post where I would talk about mountain biking safety after you've got yourself a new mountain bike or you think safety has to be bought 1st. So, adios amigos! Signing off, Ober the Mountain Biker.

DON'T DO DRUG POST: Mountain biking.

DON'T DO DRUGS POST PART 1: Mountain Biking
Hi guys,
I wanna introduce you guys to this fun recreational sport. I just found out this sport a month and half ago. This sport can be as much fun as on the road or off road. I should warn you that this sport can be as addictive as drugs are. But don't do drugs, do mountain biking. Okay guys? Mountain biking can start as low as RM180 and as high as RM20,000 per bike. But don't expect rm100 - rm500 mountain bike range to be that good up to rm20,000 bike or even rm1000 bike. It just don't! Unless you bought a second hand high-end bike from a retiring mountain biker(rare to see this happen) or upgrading mountain biker. Then it's different lah. So, as for me, I've entered this sport at rm540 mountain bike. As I was rushing to buy one and I didn't know much about mountain biking but interested to do so. But at least I got a bike to cycle though. My mountain bike is called Rockbike. Pretty rough brand I would say. Not so recommended if you're into mountain biking for off roading. I really really suggest you guys getting a mountain bike range of rm800 to rm1000 for beginner's entry level. It gives you okay and ready to go equipments. You can surely go off road with a bike that ranges from rm800 to rm1000. Brands are like Rockbike, Nexus, Lerun, Raleigh and Fuji for the brands as far as I know. I will talk more on my next post about this sports. But do check my blog about my bike which is http://thamesironworks.blogspot.com/ . Here are couple of pictures of my bike.
My bike. It's washed.
My bike after off roaded. It gets nasty.

Anda Tahu?

McOrange Applying IPTA system.

It is nice to see how McOrange is improving their system. Making students to register for their own subjects and keep track of the credit hours by themselves. This will for sure make an improvement in a student's life such as getting organised. Yet, they still need to improve in such other places such as Library System where is by pen and paper and not computerised, proper study environment and the usage of computer lab that needs internet connection and LAN connection(i've only used once for the whole one year ive in McOrange which is only about 45 mins). They also need to improve in handing out the result system. Because the system where they're applying right now which is registering the student's own subject NEEDS the previous SEMESTER result(where some subjects require passsing marks to get to the next subject) which we don't actually get on the day of registration. So, its okay. We totally understand. We really hope more improvements could be done.

The New Semester Starts with a New Holiday............???!

Hooray, the new semester starts again. Sadly, it starts with a one week holiday...hmn...We were give a 3 week semester break(read my old post) and was ask to come back on 6 of November 2006(thats today) but we were told that it is for registration purpose(today after all the rush we made to reach the college early in the morning, where some as early as 9a.m) and it takes 3 days for the process to complete. Too bad...We were also not even given a schedule or a Time Table!!!! I understand this is a NORMAL process in other college or universities, BUT this is happening for the first time in McOrange Institute.

I personally lost some few IMPORTANT MEETINGS for the day while some of my friends were also upset about it as it has spoiled their plans for the day. This is truly sad, at least a time table can be given so that my working friends could prepare their plans for the next week...

The college and the staft office was packed for some 2 hours as students were getting their registration form to be signed. One of the administration staff claims that the management is trying to standardize the process of every new semester as other education institution, so WHERE IS OUR LAST SEMESTER RESULT???

Do expect HUGE FEES to be PAID.
